11/25/2023 0 Comments Anaconda vs python vs king cobra![]() It was likely much more common in the past, but is now considered an endangered species. The Titanoboa is thought to have been native to the Americas. ![]() We have fossil records of this animal, but many questions still remain such as its preferred environment, whether it could lift a section of its body off the ground to strike, and what it ate. The Titanoboa is a snake that is much longer and thicker than an anaconda. An anaconda can grow to be over 20 feet long! A python, on the other hand, can only grow to about 3 feet long. The reticulated python can reach lengths of up to 23 feet, but is much less bulky and usually weighs in at around 100-120 pounds.Īn anaconda is much, much bigger than a python. The anaconda can grow to be more than 16 feet long and weigh over 300 pounds. Its cousin, the reticulated python, can reach slightly greater lengths, but the enormous girth of the anaconda makes it almost twice as heavy. As a result of its slender, less bulkier, build the reticulated python is a far more agile snake. The anaconda is, pound for pound, the largest snake in the world. ![]() Despite its impressive length the record weight for a reticulated python is less than the maximum weight of the Green Anaconda. The longest reticulated python recorded was 10.05m (33ft). Near human habitation, they are known to snatch stray chickens, cats and dogs on occasion. civets and binturongs), and even primates and pigs. Small specimens-up to 3–4 meters (10–14 ft) long-eat mainly rodents such as rats, whereas larger individuals switch to prey such as Viverridae (e.g. Their natural diet includes mammals and occasionally birds. An excellent swimmer, it has even been reported far out at sea and has consequently colonized many small islands within its range. ![]() It is also associated with rivers and is found in areas with nearby streams and lakes. The python lives in rain forests, woodland and nearby grassland. More than a thousand wild reticulated pythons in southern Sumatra were studied and estimated to have a length range of 1.5 to 6.5 m (4.9 to 21.3 ft) and a weight range of 1 to 75 kg (2.2 to 165.3 lb). Python reticulatus, also known as the (Asiatic) reticulated python is a species of python found in Southeast Asia. The longest (and heaviest) scientifically recorded specimen was a female measuring 521 cm (17 ft 1 in) long and weighing 97.5 kilograms (215 lb). Although the reticulated python is longer, the anaconda is the heaviest snake. Reports of anacondas 35 – 40 feet or even longer also exist, but such claims need to be regarded with caution as no specimens of such lengths have ever been deposited in a museum and hard evidence is lacking. The Green Anaconda is one of the world's longest snakes, reaching more than 6.6 m (22 ft) long. Their eyes and nasal openings are on top of their heads, allowing them to lie in wait for prey while remaining nearly completely submerged. They are cumbersome on land, but stealthy and sleek in the water. Anacondas live in swamps, marshes, and slow-moving streams, mainly in the tropical rain forests of the Amazon and Orinoco basins. Eunectes murinus is found in South America east of the Andes, in countries including Colombia, Venezuela, the Guianas, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, the island of Trinidad and as far south as northern Paraguay. The term anaconda (without further qualification) often refers to this species, though the term could also apply to other members of the genus Eunectes. Eunectes murinus is a non-venomous boa species found in South America.
